Mukteshwar

Mukteshwar, a hill resort in the state of Uttarakhand and lying at an altitude of 2,286 meters, is revered for its beautiful weather and breathtaking view of the Himalayas. The name Mukteshwar is attributed to a 350 year old Shiva Temple called Mukteshwar Dham, situated at the highest point in town. Some of the prominent peaks which are a must see are the Neelkantha, at a height of 6596 meters, Trishul at 7120 meters, Nandadevi at 7817 meters, Nandaghunti at 6310 metres and the Panchuli group. The overhanging cliffs in the region, called Chauli-ki-Jali are used for rock climbing and trekking. The chief crops are Potatoes and Mukteshwar also has an abundance of Fruit Orchards. Mukteshwar houses numerous guesthouses, hotels and first rate resorts. The best time to visit Mukteshwar is from May to November.
