
Mussoorie, known as the
"Queen of the Hills", is a major city and Hill station in Dehradun District, Uttarakhand. Placed at an elevation of 2,000 meters, Mussoorie is famous for its Flora and Fauna and its reputation as the most popular Hill Resort. The highest peak in Mussoorie is
"Lal Tibba", positioned at an altitude of 2,286 meters. The name Mussoorie is derived from Mansoor, a shrub which is indigenous to the area. The foundation of Mussoorie was laid down by Captain Young, a British Military Officer, and Mr. Shore, the Resident Superintendent of Revenues, in the year 1826. Flanked by beautiful snow ranges to the North-East and the view of Doon Valley and Shivalik Ranges in the south, Mussoorie is nothing short of Heaven. The best time to
visit Mussoorie is from mid-march to Mid-November. Mussoorie is called the
"Gateway" to Yamunotri and Gangotri.
